Memorial Day: Honoring Those Who Died in Service

The History of Memorial Day

Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who have died while serving their country. The holiday was first established in 1868, three years after the end of the Civil War, and was originally observed on May 30th. In 1971, Congress passed a law making Memorial Day a federal holiday, and it has been observed on the last Monday in May since 1973.

The Meaning of Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. It is a day to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and the sacrifices that have been made to protect them. Memorial Day is also a time to remember the families of those who have died in service, and to offer them our support and gratitude.
