Japan will end its Tokyo Olympics with a total of 58 medals and 27 golds, giving its team its best performance since the 1964 Tokyo Games.

China, which led the medal table for much of the Games, finished with 88 medals, including 38 golds, 32 silvers, and 18 bronzes. Its 88 medals eclipsed its previous record of 72 medals set in 2008.

The United States was third with 113 medals, including 39 golds, 41 silvers, and 33 bronzes. The Americans achieved their lowest gold medal total since the 1984 Games, and had the largest number of athletes in competition, 613.
