Earthquake In Los Angeles California Today

4.2 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Southern California

11 Earthquakes in Past 7 Days

Residents Urged to Prepare for More

A powerful 4.2-magnitude earthquake rocked Southern California on Friday night, causing buildings to shake and foundations to crack. The quake was centered near the city of San Bernardino and was felt throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
This is the fourth earthquake of magnitude 4.0 or greater to hit Southern California in the past 24 hours and the 11th in the past seven days. Seismologists say the recent swarm of earthquakes is not unusual, but they are urging residents to be prepared for more.
"We're not saying that a big earthquake is imminent, but we do want people to be aware of the possibility," said Lucy Jones, a seismologist with the California Institute of Technology. "The best way to prepare is to have a plan in place and to make sure you have supplies on hand." Residents are advised to have a plan in place in case of an earthquake, including a way to contact family and friends, a place to go if your home is damaged, and a supply of food and water. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has a number of resources available to help residents prepare for earthquakes, including a website with information on earthquake preparedness at https://www.ready.gov/earthquakes
