Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California. Her father was Jamaican and her mother was Indian.

Harris earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard University and a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

Harris began her political career in 2003 when she was elected as District Attorney of San Francisco.

In 2011, she was elected as California's Attorney General, a position she held until 2017.

In 2016, Harris was elected to the United States Senate as a Democrat, representing California.
