Shane Austin Baz is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2021.
Amateur Career
Baz attended Concordia Lutheran High School in Tomball, Texas. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1st round, 12th overall, of the 2017 MLB June Amateur Draft.
Professional Career
Baz made his MLB debut with the Rays on August 30, 2021. He pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out six batters.
In 2022, Baz started 32 games for the Rays, posting a 10-8 record with a 3.61 ERA. He struck out 181 batters in 167 innings pitched.
Baz is considered one of the top young pitchers in baseball. He has a fastball that reaches up to 99 mph and a devastating changeup.
